Original story follows.
Following the recent next-generation update for Cyberpunk 2077 and the subsequent patch 1.5, the game is reportedly broken for those on the PS4 physical disc version. Though the exact cause is unclear the developer behind Cyberpunk 2077 has claimed that it’s currently looking into the issue.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been years in the making with the teaser trailer dating back to as far as 2013. After years of hype and anticipation, CD Projekt Red released the game on December 10, 2020, though the release date was pushed forward several times following a number of production issues. But even after launch, it was clear that the game was still not ironed out when it was removed from the PlayStation Store within a month. Now, with the next-gen version and the massive 50GB patch update, the developer aims to turn things around for Cyberpunk 2077.

Patch 1.5 added improvements such as fixing mission progression, altering NPC AI, implementing better combat, and more. The update also included additions like new cosmetics for V, new weapon options, and changes for romances in Cyberpunk 2077, to name a few. However, these fixes and improvements have also caused further issues for some gamers. Notably, many PS4 players on the disc version are reporting launch errors after installing patch 1.5. Every attempt at launching the game is met with system prompts to delete the application, insert the disc again, and reinstall the game.
But even as PS4 users have raised the issue on CD Projekt Red’s forum pages, the launch errors remain unresolved. Fortunately, CDPR global community director Marcin Momot has stated that the studio is currently looking into the PS4 disc version’s crash issues after applying the patch. Momot also mentions that the audio software-related issue on the PC version is also being addressed. As a temporary fix, Momot recommends users disable audio drivers before launching the game on PC. However, no such fix is currently available for the faulty PS4 version.
These issues around Cyberpunk 2077 are only the latest in a long lineup of problems that have plagued the much-hyped title since launch. The situation became so problematic that CD Projekt Red delayed plans for DLC content with no tentative release window announced to date. Regardless, the new update should still entice users, particularly those who opted to wait for a more stable version of the game than the version that was released initially. Though, it remains to be seen when fans will get a truly stable version of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
