One player, known as Makavelinow on Reddit, has potentially discovered one of those secrets in Cyberpunk 2077. It’s not clear if it all of this connects to something bigger, but it’s definitely a little confusing.

Makavelinow found a new NPC in Cyberpunk 2077, one with a little more time and attention put into them than the non-story NPCs, crying on a dock. Upon approaching the NPC, they say nothing and do nothing—almost as if there was nothing to do with this character. It certainly doesn’t track like any normal quest in Cyberpunk 2077. However, upon searching the area, it seems they are crying because they dropped something in the water.
Players can dive down and pick up the item, which turns out to be a key instead of a phone or something. Upon returning the key to the NPC, they will then thank them and pull out their phone. As Makavelinow shows, if players zoom in on their phone, there appears to be some important code. Now, whether that code goes anywhere or not is the big question. It could be nothing, marking just an odd encounter in Cyberpunk 2077. Or, it could play some mystery—it would make more sense for it to mean something given the odd circumstances.
For now, it remains to be seen, but several communities have thrived on a game’s mystery. Red Dead Redemption 2 players, still to this day, look into mysteries like Princess IKZ and the third meteorite. That’s not to say this code is to the same level as those, but it could be that players manage to figure out the code, the whole mystery, or just one part of it.
As players return to Cyberpunk 2077 or begin playing it for the first time, it’ll be interesting to see how these communal aspects change—if they do at all. For now, this is one for the mystery hunters of Cyberpunk 2077.
