While some fans were hesitant at first, as they believed Cyberpunk should have had a live-action adaptation, the reviews for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners so far have seemingly confirmed that the efforts from famed animation company Studio Trigger have paid off to create an enjoyable show. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was also made in collaboration with CD Projekt Red, something that is clear to see if fans look at update 1.6 for Cyberpunk 2077, which adds in David Martinez’s jacket from the anime.

While the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners content in Cyberpunk 2077 has given fans somewhat of a look at a crossover between the anime and game, one player, known as Akiens on Reddit, decided to go one step further, creating their own version of David Martinez in-game. Using the character creator of Cyberpunk 2077 and wearing Martinez’s jacket, Akiens managed to make a close copy of the Edgerunners protagonist. Considering the difference between Cyberpunk 2077’s graphics and the anime style of Studio Trigger, it would not have been possible to fully recreate the character, but it’s clear to see who Akiens has made in-game.

Cyberpunk fans in the comments of Akiens’ Reddit post were quick to praise the recreation, with one user stating that the in-game version of Martinez actually looked quite close to the designs CD Projekt Red initially put forward for the character. As stated, the Cyberpunk 2077 developer helped Netflix and Studio Trigger in the creation of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, ensuring that the anime adaptation would stay true to the setting of both the game and its tabletop origins.

While the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners could set the bar for future adaptations of the game, Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunner update marks the end of an era for the dystopian title. It was announced alongside the reveal of version 1.6 for Cyberpunk 2077 that this would be the last update coming to Xbox One and PS4. Despite last-gen consoles no longer getting new updates for the game, CD Projekt Red reportedly remains committed to Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
