With this in mind, it comes as little surprise that CD Projekt RED is opening up a new development studio. In a press release published to the company’s official blog, it reveals the opening of CD Projekt RED Wrocław after having acquired Wrocław-based development studio Strange New Things. Adam Kiciński, the president and joint CEO of the CD Projekt RED Capital Group says, “Wrocław is one of the biggest and most technologically advanced cities in Poland and a playing field for serious creative talent” and that with projects like Cyberpunk 2077 in the works, CD Projekt RED will be able to “pull in people who were hesitant to move to Warsaw or Cracow.”
The Cyberpunk 2077 developer also says that CD Projekt RED Wrocław is made up of 18 industry veterans who share the company’s vision for putting “gamers, creative freedom, and quality games above making business.” The Wrocław-based team also feels that “this attitude is essential to creating epic video games,” says CD Projekt RED. The Cyberpunk 2077 developer has previously suggested that the game won’t be “greedy” like other games and fans will be glad to know that the new hires support this ethos as well.
This is also important given that the new Wrocław development team is set to play a significant role in the development of the game. While the team’s exact duties are not known, CD Projekt RED does state that the new team has been brought on in order to “bolster development” of Cyberpunk 2077 and that the developers in Wrocław will be joining forces with those in Warsaw and Cracow to make the game happen.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game with a lot of moving pieces, with CD Projekt RED having teased online multiplayer features not too long ago. There are even rumors that the game could be released on next-generation consoles (i.e. the consoles that release after the PS4 and the Xbox One), which would also be a significant undertaking that provides a real challenge for all of the developers.
Moreover, CD Projekt RED is reportedly planning to reveal a new trailer at E3 2018 in June for Cyberpunk 2077, with there even being some reports that a playable demo is going to be shown off behind closed doors. The new, Wrocław-based hires could be working on any number of these aspects of the game, and it will be exciting to see how their efforts pay off.
