Both retailers have slashed the price for Cyberpunk 2077 from its original $59.99 to $29.99, though there are some caveats. None of the retailers are offering a reduced price for digital versions. That means owners of the digital-only version of the PS5 or the Xbox Series S can’t take advantage of the sale, since neither of those consoles contain a disk drive. However, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and standard PS5 owners have never been able to get the game for a lower price. There is also the side note that there’s no indication this reduction in the sale price is a permanent move.
Studio head Adam Badowski recently posted a response to the new report where he seemingly admitted some of the most recent reports around Cyberpunk 2077 were accurate. He claimed that “It’s hard for a trade show game demo not to be a test of vision or vertical slice two years before the game ships.” However, he refuted the idea that the footage his company showed was fake.
Other recent reports claimed that several employees of CD Projekt Red didn’t think the game would release in 2020 based on the progress of the development in 2019. Some reportedly believed it wouldn’t land on consoles until at least 2022. All of these problems around the game haven’t been missed by members of the business community. All of the issues, including at least one lawsuit filed against the developer, have industry analysts thinking Cyberpunk 2077 could lead to a buyout or hostile takeover of CD Projekt Red. For now, retailers dealing with the company will just see a hit to the bottom line when it comes to sales.
Cyberpunk 2o77 is now available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
