The Delicious Last Course, which was previously delayed from an initial 2021 release, features brothers Cuphead and Mugman once again setting out on an adventure, this time accompanied by new playable character Ms. Chalice. New gameplay revealed at Summer Game Fest features Ms. Chalice, who previously appeared as a non-player character called “The Legendary Chalice” in Cuphead, in action against various frost-themed enemies in a chilly, frozen world. The DLC will take place in a previously unexplored section of the Inkwell Isles, where Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice will have to take down larger-than-life bosses in order to assist the friendly Chef Saltbaker.

First, Ms. Chalice is shown fighting a snowman that is capable of separating the top half of its body from the bottom half. Next, Ms. Chalice must balance atop a series of rotating platforms as she takes on a boss that appears to be a living snowflake. The snowflake is able to remove its own eye and send it out onto the battlefield to attack Ms. Chalice; it also has arms inside it that can throw buckets as ranged projectiles. Once Ms. Chalice defeats the boss with her special attack, which releases a swirling pillar of golden light, the snowflake breaks apart to reveal a shivering old man inside. The unique battle already looks ready to be added to Cuphead’s list of entertaining boss fights.

Geoff Keighley also confirmed that the ongoing Summer Game Fest event will also feature updates regarding Season 2 of The Cuphead Show! Season 1 of this animated program premiered on Netflix in February 2022, and received praise from critics for its unique visuals and humorous, relatable characters. Season 1 of the show features a mix of scenes inspired by the original game, including Cuphead accidentally promising his soul to the Devil in a carnival game, and original stories, primarily involving the brothers getting up to various pranks and bothering Elder Kettle. Ms. Chalice appears in the last episode, hinting at her playable appearance in The Delicious Last Course.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course was one of several games to have gameplay footage revealed during Summer Game Fest. Other reveals included a gore-streaked trailer for survival horror title The Callisto Protocol, an extended look at the revamped version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and a peek at Witchblade, a dark fantasy title first revealed nearly five years ago. Other indie titles also appeared during the showcase, including apocalyptic title Highwater and slick-looking satire American Arcadia.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course will release on June 30, 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
