In order for players to even start Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, they must complete the base game’s Mausoleum 1. After successfully parrying away the numerous pink ghosts, the Legendary Chalice (Ms. Chalice) will be freed, thus revealing a new NPC outside which can take players to the new Inkwell Isle.

How to Get S Rank in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

In order for Cuphead players to achieve an S rank, they must first complete the entire game on Normal difficulty to unlock the Expert difficulty setting.

After this has been done, bosses can be revisited with the third difficulty setting of Expert, which cranks up each boss’s health, attack frequency, and attack quantity. If that wasn’t hard enough to overcome by itself, players can only attain an S Rank in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course by maintaining 3 HP, using six Super Attacks, performing three non-mandatory parries, and finishing all in under two minutes.

While an immensely tall order for just about anyone, it is important to note that the six Super Attacks are equivalent to using six of the cards in the Super Meter, meaning that by using one of the Super Arts, players can get five out of the required six in a single move.

The newly playable Ms. Chalice also features a more dynamic move set, making it potentially easier on players who may be struggling.

Should one somehow manage to check all of these boxes without breaking their controller in Cuphead rage, they will be bequeathed the coveted S Rank for the level, unlocking the Cooked to Perfection achievement.

Beating a boss on Expert Mode will also change the flag outside the stage to a gold cup instead of a white one, and the checkmark on the scorecard will become a star.

While it remains unclear what will happen if someone gets an S rank on every single level, Cuphead offers another difficult achievement, albeit one that takes an entirely different approach.

Cuphead players can earn the Pacifist Achievement/Trophy if they are able to earn a P rank on all the Run ’n Gun levels, which thankfully don’t have an Expert mode of their own.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
